Support during panic, tingling or tension. A healthcare professional must assess the cause; this tool does not diagnose or treat tetany.
When not to wait for an app
For severe breathing difficulty, new or severe chest pain, loss of consciousness, a seizure, blue lips or sudden weakness on one side, call emergency services. Known tetany does not rule out another serious condition.
If this is the first time, symptoms are unusual or you are unsure, seek medical help. For sudden unexplained breathing difficulty, call 112. Do not automatically attribute it to panic.
Outside the EU, use the local emergency number. You initiate the call; the app does not summon help automatically.
For adults with familiar symptoms and no warning signs. Do not wait to finish if you get worse. For a child with symptoms, contact a healthcare professional.
Stop exercising and sit supported somewhere calm. Do not drive. If possible, ask someone to stay with you. Follow your personal clinician-provided plan if you have one.
If comfortable, name three things you can see and notice your feet touching the floor. You do not need to close your eyes or monitor your pulse. You may stay with this step.
Do not try to take in as much air as possible. Let breathing be gentle, regular and comfortably paced. No breath-holding or required counting. If focusing on breathing increases discomfort, return to your surroundings.
Do not breathe into a bag. Do not change medicine, magnesium or calcium doses based on the app.
I am glad you feel some relief. Relief does not confirm the cause or rule out a health problem. Arrange a medical assessment for new or recurring symptoms.
The same or unsure
You do not have to repeat the exercise. Contact a healthcare professional for persistent or returning symptoms. If unsure, breathing is difficult or you get worse, call 112.
The guide does not replace emergency or medical care.
Tetany has more than one cause
Tingling and muscle spasms can accompany hyperventilation and calcium or magnesium disturbances. Medical assessment determines the cause and appropriate treatment. A camera, watch or this app cannot measure mineral levels or confirm tetany.
Do not breathe into a bag. Do not change medicine, magnesium or calcium doses based on the app.
